Description
1803 1ed LAW Napoleon French Civil Code Napoleonic Wars French Revolution Paris
Beginning in 1804, The French Civil Code, or Napoleonic Code, was established under Napoleon Bonaparte. It strongly influenced the laws of many countries, especially those during the Napoleonic Wars and Middle Eastern countries seeking to modernize their political and governmental standards. This collection of laws and legal codes were established based on Justinian and Roman law rather than preexisting French laws.
However, these laws were not favorable with everyone. Women were given fewer rights, in fact, they were considered substantially inferior to men and even minorities. These codes; however, did provide a more stringent focus on military and included a complete overhaul of civil procedures.
The composition of these laws began in 1803, and this work, printed by Moreaux, is the first two volumes of what would become a 9-volume, three-year project.
