Description:
2 volumes in 1. iv, 356; 171 pp. (8vo) 20.5x12 cm (8x5"), finely bound by Arthur & Colley in paneled green polished calf tooled in gilt, gilt spine with raised bands, gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. First Edition of Reflections, Second Edition of Rights of Man.
Edmund Burke's iconic conservative attack on the French Revolution bound together with Thomas Paine's legendary two part rebuttal 'The Rights of Man'. Paine's response was one of the first to effectively puncture Burke's position and its publication caused a furor in England; Paine was tried in absentia, and convicted of seditious libel against the Crown, but was unavailable for hanging, being in France and never returning to England.
Condition
Light wear and a few areas of staining to leather, spine label mostly lacking, rubbing to extremities with a bit of scuffing to spine; offsetting to endpaper edges; very good.
