Description:
2 volumes in 1. iv, 356; 171 pp. (8vo) 21x12.2 cm (8?x4?"), period quarter leather with marbled boards, morocco spine labels lettered in gilt. Third Edition of Reflections, Second Edition of Rights of Man.
Edmund Burke's iconic conservative attack on the French Revolution bound together with Thomas Paine's legendary two part rebuttal 'The Rights of Man'. Paine's response was one of the first to effectively puncture Burke's position and its publication caused a furor in England; Paine was tried in absentia, and convicted of seditious libel against the Crown, but was unavailable for hanging, being in France and never returning to England.
Condition
Wear and rubbing to boards and leather; binding tight, some offsetting to text and faint age-toning to pages, scattered foxing throughout; very good.
