Description
A nice C. T. Ham manufactured frame with a brass top and bell bottom. It has a twist off bell. It is a 6" globe size frame. The Fitchburg only used this tall 6" design. This is an earlier Ham frame with "Patent Appl For" on the bell retaining plate. It is a single vertical model not the later double wire. It has a large diameter bell at 7". The brass top has a ding. The name FITCHBURG is spelled out on the lid. Ham's do not have RR after the Fitchburg name. It has a standard glass fount and brass burner. The frame is straight and square. It will definitely clean up if you choose to polish it up. The globe is a nice 6" red flashed example with the narrow, fancy FRR lettering. There are at least 4 distinct Fitchburg cast globes and this is the one typically found on the reds. Flashing means that a thin coat of red is applied to the interior of a clear globe. Red glass was very expensive to produce so this was a money saver in manufacturing. The flashing shows on the edges (you can see the clear are where the red has worn off). Red cast Fitchburg globes are not common. This is a nice lantern.
