Description
A Parmalee & Bonnell 6" brass top railroad lantern frame with skirted base and correct "dome" top fount. An older frame with the bail going through the vents so it pre-dates bail ears on the cage. A skirted base is also an early form. It has a faint 1871 patent on the lid opposite the ERR stamping. The ERR stamping is standard P&B lettering in smaller fancy letters. The twist off bell comes off and on easily. The metal has some pitting but seems solid. There is one split in the brass top but no major dents or damage. The globe is a Dewey 6" unmarked barrel. The Eastern did not purchase cast globes for their removable globe lantern frames. The Eastern Railroad was bought out by the Boston & Maine Railroad in 1885.
