Description
A Boston & Maine 6" globe size brass top bellbottom lantern. The frame has a Railroad Signal top and a Dewey bell. This is standard for the Boston & Maine. The vent area has a Apr 23, 1883 patent stamp and the bell has a Aug 31, 1875 patent date along with the F. O. Dewey marking. The brass top is in very good condition. There is minimal pitting and no signs of damage. I think the bell butt joint was re-soldered at some point. The bell comes off easily. It has a standard flat-top glass fount and brass burner.
The globe is a nice example of the red cast flashed barrel. It has fancy B&MRR in a rectangular panel. The red is a thin layer applied to the interior of a clear globe. The casting is very good. There is just enough flaking of the flashing that you can see some clear on the base area.
