Dewey 12 Wire Brasstop Bellbottom Mill Lantern

Item Details

Description

A standard brasstop bellbottom mill lantern made by Dewey. It has the locking hasp on the lid latch. This lantern was to be used by an employee who would not be allowed to access the flame. Old mills had terrible amounts of dust that could explode with devastating consequences. With a brass top and tin body, this probably dates to the 1883-1900 period. The brass burner does not have the wick scraper. There is a faint F.O. Dewey hallmark on the very bottom. No other patent dates. Generally this era has the 1883 patent date.
