Dewey 12 Wire Solid Brass Lantern - Marine Use?

Item Details

Description

An unusual F. O. Dewey mill lantern that is solid brass. Just the fount is tin. Possible marine and not mill use. It has the locking hasp on the lid latch but the "U" shaped tab is missing from the lid.. This lantern was to be used by an employee who would not be allowed to access the flame. With all brass construction with no wire clips on the joints, it probably dates to the 1875-1900 period. The brass burner does not have the wick scraper. There is a decent F.O. Dewey hallmark on the very bottom. No other patent dates.
