Description
A Pre-Columbian ceramic ocarina. Cilla-Ginga, Southwest Columbia, c.1200-1500 AD. Formed as a shell, painted with red and black polka dots on a buff ground. Resist decoration with high burnished slip color. Measures 4.75" long, 3.75" wide, 3" high.
Ocarina defined: a small wind instrument with a mouthpiece and holes for the fingers.
Provenance: Consignor purchased in 1995 from David Bernstein, Fine Art, New York.
