Description
Autograph document. Island of Oahu, Kingdom of Hawai'i, 5 May 1884. 3 pages, legal folio, 8 1/2 x 14 in. Franked with two scarce Hawaii revenue duty stamps to upper left. Undersigned. Docketed to verso with stamp completed in manuscript. Bifolium with unusual fold at upper edge.
A unique administrative document from the Hawaiian Islands during the Kalākaua dynasty, fascinatingly recorded in both English and Hawaiian. The document is a transference of property from Antone Rodrigues to Manuel Rodrigues "in consideration of three thousand dollars". The tract of land is situated in Mokauea in Kalihi Valley on Oahu, with specific coordinates recorded.
Documents from this period of Hawaiian history are rarely seen, and almost never appear on the mainland. A beautiful and interesting document.
Condition: Minor evening toning and old folds, else very fine.
