Description
Outdoor boudoir of at least 9 miners and a pack of donkeys. [Ouray, Colorado]: N.p. Period ink inscription to verso reads: "Ouray. Colo. Pack train to the Blaine".
An excellent representative image of miners preparing to stake their claim. A group of men, many smoking cigarettes, pose among several donkeys loaded up with supplies. One man, with a Van Dyke beard, is mounted and stares directly at the camera's lens. Behind them, a row of buildings typical of simple frontier construction is visible. The mountainside, peppered with conifers, rises behind them.
The Blaine was a gold mine located in Ouray County, Colorado, a gold mining boomtown incorporated in 1876.
