Montague on the hill," and "Mr. George Chair/ The Oldest Settler/ now living in/ Christiansburg, 1856/ August 25, th;" the second inscribed "The Residence of Mr. Crockett in Wytheville/ July 1th [sic] 1856," and "a Elm tree Struck by Lightning in the/ Evening, Eighty feet from the house at Stewart Crockett," (8.25 x 6.5 inches, sight). Frame: H: 16.25 in., W: 14.125 in., D: .75 in. Provenance: The Dingman Collection, Hampton, New Hampshire.
