Description
Classic large 1850s - 1860s era Bowie knife made and marketed for the California trade. 9 - 1/2” clip-point blade with stag handles held by silver pins; 14 1/2” overall. Left slab has a silver escutcheon. Blade has acid etched left side with "GOLD SEEKERS PROTECTOR" in center of floral panel. Etching is strong and as nice as one could expect to find. Ricasso is stamped: "CORSAN DENTON / BURDEKIN & Co." This exact knife is pictured in California's Best: Old West Art And Antiques, pg. 111., by Brad and Brian Witherell. CONDITION: Very Good. Only the lightest period sharpening to edge. Blade Length: 9 - 1/2" Overall Length: 14 - 1/2"
