Hiari/Wari Kero Beaker, Pre-Columbian, Central Coast of Peru, Huari/Wari, 500 to 800 AD. An attractive Kero or cylindrical beaker with flaring sides, a vessel popular when Wari and Tiwanaku dominated the central and southern Andes and used for the consumption of chicha (corn beer) during ceremonies as well as more pedestrian gatherings. Keros played a significant role in maintaining and building social and political relations. This example has a red -brown slip and is decorated with a vertical black and white stripes with a white circle and dot near the rim. 4 7/8” H, 4 7/8” W, 4 1??2” D.
