**Originally Listed At $300**

Pre-Columbian, North/Central Coast of Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A rare blackware pottery jar with a hemispherical base depicting the bottom of a squash with its dozens of protruding nodules. The squash was a dietary staple amongst the Chimu due to its ability to thrive in harsh conditions with minimal moisture as well as its ability to develop around other crops without impeding their growth. The shoulder is decorated with a raised band of abstract birds shown as serrated, zigzagging lines bearing incised triangles on each terminal. Size: 5.25" Diameter x 6.2" H (13.3 cm x 15.7 cm)

Professional repair and restoration to entire spout, handle, and small area of shoulder, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions to body and shoulder, with light softening to some raised details, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to black color and most decorative motifs.
