Chancay Bi-Chrome Pottery Jar Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 AD. Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay. A fine pottery jar with Abstract Designs, boasting a rotund form and black and white decoration. Sitting upon a rounded base, the ancient vessel presents a globular body, a corseted neck, a flared spout, and a pair of ribbon-form handles connecting neck to shoulder. White pigment covers the globe of the vessel, while black slip covers the handles and neck and vertical stripes. Zoomorphic appliques are placed below the ribbon handles. Geometric and linear motifs additionally adorn the globe of the vessel. 30.1 cm H, 20.3 cm W, 20.5 cm D.
