COLLECTION OF SEVEN SPECTACLE CASES
An assortment including a Chinese silk case, a hinged hand carved fitted wooden case circa 1860, a "Hartshorns" American Brimfield child's case with animals a top the hinged lid, a lacquered case with frog mouth, a wooden case with frog mouth, a German two-part case, and the last a pince-nez wooden case with frog mouth and gold writing to the front, circa 1880.

From the collection of Dr. J. William Rosenthal, M.D.

Dr. Rosenthal was a well-known ophthalmologist, an expert on the history of spectacles and other visual aids, a renowned collector, an author, and a generous benefactor of many institutions. His father, Jonas W. Rosenthal, MD, is the namesake of the museum of ophthalmology at Tulane University. Optical devices from his collection can be found in over sixteen museums including the Museum of Vision of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
