FRENCH LORGNETTE WITH TWO REFLECTING RETINOSCOPES AND TWO LENS DRAWERS
One (1) French, French Lorgnette, circa 1850. Gilt and silver finished with ring handle leading up to the folding spectacles with two (2) American, Reflecting Retinoscopes, circa 1925. One (1) with long handle, the other with folding handle, together with two (2) lens drawers.

From the collection of Dr. J. William Rosenthal, M.D.

Dr. Rosenthal was a well-known ophthalmologist, an expert on the history of spectacles and other visual aids, a renowned collector, an author, and a generous benefactor of many institutions. His father, Jonas W. Rosenthal, MD, is the namesake of the museum of ophthalmology at Tulane University. Optical devices from his collection can be found in over sixteen museums including the Museum of Vision of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
