EIGHT CHINESE BRASS SPECTACLES
Eight (8) Brass framed spectacles with circular lenses and folding temples. Six (6) with angular bridges, two (2) with rounded bridges. Ranging from early/late 19th century.
From the collection of Dr. J. William Rosenthal, M.D.
Dr. Rosenthal was a well-known ophthalmologist, an expert on the history of spectacles and other visual aids, a renowned collector, an author, and a generous benefactor of many institutions. His father, Jonas W. Rosenthal, MD, is the namesake of the museum of ophthalmology at Tulane University. Optical devices from his collection can be found in over sixteen museums including the Museum of Vision of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
