VISUAL AIDS COLLECTION OF SPECTACLES AND ACCESSORIES
19th to early 20th century, seven pieces. Includes four pince-nez spectacles including one hard rubber frame and three gold finished frames (two rimless). Together with a Continental monachal in case, and two lacquered glass cases, one with silver highlights.
From the collection of Dr. J. William Rosenthal, M.D.
Dr. Rosenthal was a well-known ophthalmologist, an expert on the history of spectacles and other visual aids, a renowned collector, an author, and a generous benefactor of many institutions. His father, Jonas W. Rosenthal, MD, is the namesake of the museum of ophthalmology at Tulane University. Optical devices from his collection can be found in over sixteen museums including the Museum of Vision of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
