COLLECTION OF SPECTACLES AND ACCESSORIES
Nine pieces. Highlighted by American blue steel double-D blue lens (one cracked) spectacles with X bridge, circa 1850. Another American with smoked oval lenses, circa 1900. Another sunglasses with circular lenses and cable temples, circa 1915. Another rimless pince-nez with geometric formed bifocal lenses in case, circa 1890. Another rimless pince-nez with oval lenses in case, circa 1918. Another pince-nez with thin zyl rim in case, circa 1910. Another American 14K pince-nez with large circular lenses, circa 1915. Another American 10K pince-nez with spring bridge in tin case, circa 1880. All together with a myopic monocle with bridge circa 1905, and a lacquered mother-of-pearl inlaid case.

From the collection of Dr. J. William Rosenthal, M.D.

Dr. Rosenthal was a well-known ophthalmologist, an expert on the history of spectacles and other visual aids, a renowned collector, an author, and a generous benefactor of many institutions. His father, Jonas W. Rosenthal, MD, is the namesake of the museum of ophthalmology at Tulane University. Optical devices from his collection can be found in over sixteen museums including the Museum of Vision of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
