ASSORTED SPECTACLES COLLECTION
Includes gold filled reading spectacles with oval lenses, scroll bridge and straight temples, circa 1900. Another gold finished pince-nez. Another gold finished with round lenses, saddle bridge and engraved frame with cable temples. Metal readers in cat's eye form. Another Chinese broken with horn circular rims. The last with five-sided lenses, one broke to the cable temple.

From the collection of Dr. J. William Rosenthal, M.D.

Dr. Rosenthal was a well-known ophthalmologist, an expert on the history of spectacles and other visual aids, a renowned collector, an author, and a generous benefactor of many institutions. His father, Jonas W. Rosenthal, MD, is the namesake of the museum of ophthalmology at Tulane University. Optical devices from his collection can be found in over sixteen museums including the Museum of Vision of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
