Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 100 BCE. A hand-carved stone figure of abstract form exhibiting dark green, gray, and black hues. Light remains of orange-red pigment are visible within some of the string-cut grooves decorating the figure and indicate how elaborately this figure was decorated at one time. Size: 1.75" L x 3.625" W x 5.75" H (4.4 cm x 9.2 cm x 14.6 cm); 6.4" H (16.3 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-collection of the late Peter Arnovick, San Francisco, California, USA, acquired before 1995

Expected nicks and abrasions to some surfaces commensurate with age, with softening to some string-cut details, fading to pigment, and light earthen deposits, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation to figural form.
