Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, near Roosevelt Lake, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), early Tularosa type, ca. 1250 to 1300 CE. A lovely pottery pitcher skillfully adorned in Tularosa black-on-white decoration with a bulbous body, a tubular neck, and a round rim, all sitting upon a concave base. A flattened, ribbon-form handle extends from the top of the neck to the founded shoulder, while the exterior is extensively embellished by nested steppe motif and triangular patterns. Pottery played an important role in Anasazi culture and included both utilitarian and decorative pieces that could be traded with neighboring communities for food or other goods. Anasazi pottery was made by hand coiling clay, then smoothing the surface and painting with designs before firing. Size: 5.1" Diameter x 5.3" H (13 cm x 13.5 cm)

Professional repair and restoration to rim with repainting over break lines. Light surface wear as shown. Otherwise, excellent presentation with good remaining decoration, as well as mineral deposits and encrustations on the interior.
