Item Details
Description
Native American, North America, Southwestern United States, New Mexico, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), Tularosa, ca. 900 to 1450 CE. A pottery jar formed via the traditional coil-and-scrape technique of a round-bottomed form meant to store seeds. The vessel exhibits a spherical body, a rounded shoulder that flattens out towards the rim, and a squat circular rim. Adorned with applied black pigment, the white-hued exterior boasts an elaborate decorative register of solid and hatched bands which spiral around one another but never touch. Surrounding the shoulder is a series of radial spikes meant to represent the rays of the sun. Size: 14.5" Diameter x 12.5" H (36.8 cm x 31.8 cm); 15" H (38.1 cm) on included custom stand.
