Washington, Dec(ember), 25, 1838. One sheet folded to make four pages, 10 x 8 in. (254 x 203 mm). One-page autograph letter, signed by future 14th president of the United States, Franklin Pierce, as a United States Senator from New Hampshire, to a Mr. Dickey: "Dear Sir, I inclose herewith the certificate of Mrs. Gould which is the last of them committed to my case--Have you not other cases which will be forth coming--Where is Mrs Sheds claim? Do you not intend to make an offer for her--The weather here is as cold as Greenland & has been for these days--Give my love to my dear father--I intend to write him this Evening of his birth day--I wish you & Mrs Dickey a merry Christmas--Yr friend Fr. Pierce" Creasing from contemporary folds; docketed on verso "F. Pierce". Im mat with an engraved portrait of Pierce, and in frame, 14 1/2 x 18 1/4 in. (368 x 463 mm).
