Description
A very fine and elegant carved wooden stool featuring a lovely ancestor figure with hands on the knees and wearing a wrap skirt is used as the central support, as well as two carved support poles embellished with geometric designs and zoomorphic forms carved in relief, such as a Frog with serpent in his mouth, tortoise, fish, feline and bird. The stool measures 12 x 9 inches and is one of the finest Pende works of art we have had the pleasure of offering. Provenance: Ex Merton Simpson gallery, New York with inventory # 5458, also Ex Private New Jersey collection.
