Description
A very rare carved wooden six legged stool fully tacked and with loops on the back to hang royal regalia, sometimes bronze bells. Tack-studded stools and chairs like this, called Ekele, are used as prestigious furniture or as a throne for Ngombe chiefs and were symbols of status. This Chair measures 23 x 29 x 9 inches and is quite heavy. Ngombe / Ngbandi peoples, DRC/ Congo, Africa. Provenance: Ex. Joseph Gerena fine art, NY 1991
