West Africa, Cameroon, Bamun (Bamum)/Tikar region, ca. early 20th century CE. An impressive ceramic pipe with a carved ivory mouthpiece. The ceramic bowl is in the form of a male face, with the puffed out cheeks meant to represent strength and dominance. Incised lines on the face are indicative of scarification. Size: 13.75" W x 4.4" H (34.9 cm x 11.2 cm)
