Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz was a 17th-century German philosopher whose ideas of best of all possible worlds was a landmark attempt to solve all of the worlds evils.
Originally published in 1710, Essays on Theodicy was one of Leibniz most well-known works and was the only book by Leibniz to be published during his lifetime. It was the first work to introduce the term theodicy. Leibniz sought to provide a new, optimistic approach to curing all of the worlds evils. He claimed that human free will, against Gods true goodness, was the root cause of the worlds evil.
