1888 Sir Francis Bacon English ESSAYS Political Philosophy Law Good Evil Whately
“Some books should be tasted, some devoured, but only a few should be chewed and digested thoroughly.”
― Francis Bacon
Francis Bacon was one of the most famous English philosophers and scientists of the Renaissance. While most of his work deals with discovery, scientific method, and the scientific revolution, he did lean strongly toward Puritanism in his personal devotion.
A rare, mid-19th-century English printing of The Essays by Bacon. This collection of personal theories covers a wide variety of topics dealing with human emotion such as death, revenge, parenting, marriage vs single life, love and envy, atheism vs religion, nobility, wealth and riches, gardening, social factions, anger, and many more. The Essays was the origin to many well-known proverbs and aphorisms such as:
“If the Hill will not come to Mahomet, Mahomet will go to the hill”. (Of Boldness)
