Description
1857 SIGNED Alchemy & Alchemists Hermetic Philosophy Philosophers Stone Magic
Ethan Hitchcocks “Remarks Upon Alchemy” is a rare, fascinating 19th-century account of the mysteries alchemists and philosophers sought to uncover throughout history. In this book, Hitchcock discusses how Hermetic Philosophy, or Alchemy, was rooted in pagan religions using signs and a disobedience to God to purify metals. It also contains numerous descriptions of the Philosophers Stone as well as the behavior of the planets and their impact on metal transmutation.
From Hitchcock himself regarding alchemy,
“The work of the alchemists was one of contemplation and not a work of the hands… if you acknowlede no other guide or authority but Truth, you may easily discover something of hermetic philosophy; and if at the beginning there should be fear and trembling the end may be a more than compensating peace” (Hitchcock, Remarks)
