Zemke’s Wolf Pack. Colonel Hubert “Hub” Zemke 1914-1994) was a career officer in the United States Air Force, a fighter pilot in World War II, and a leading United States Army Air Forces ace. He commanded the 56th Fighter Group in England, which came to be known as "Zemke's Wolf Pack". The book, Zemke’s Wolf Pack, as told to Roger A. Freeman, Orion Books, 1988, first edition. The book chronicles one of the most successful American fighter units during World War II. The half-title page is signed by seven air aces: “Hub Zemke,” Frank J. Kibbe (1920-2008) “Frank J. Kibbe 56th Gp. 1st Sqdn,” Walker Mahurin (1918-2010) “Walker M Mahurin 56th Ftr Gp. 63rd Ftr Sqdn,” Gerald W. Johnson (1919-2002) “Gerald W. Johnson Gen. USAF (Ret) WW II – 56 Ftr Gp.,” Fred Christenson (1921-2006) “Fred J. Christenson Jr 56th FG 62nd F SQ,” and Francis Gabreski (1919-2002) “Gabby Gabreski CO 61st Sqdn.” There is also a 6 ¼” x 9” autograph note signed by Gabreski, at the bottom of the collector’s letter. The dust jacket is very good. There is a vertical cut in the lower right corner of the first black page.
