Albumen Photograph of Birthday Presentation to Buffalo Bill Cody in London 1903
17 x 14 in. oa, 11 x 8.5" live area, with blind stamp of "Jas. E. Hunt/Copyright," Kensington, London lower right.
A ranging panoramic view of Buffalo Bill accepting the presentation of a silver tea set on the occasion of his Birthday, 1903. Flanked by unknown dignitaries, Buffalo Bill with his ubiquitous cowboy hat in hand stands dead center as one dignitary, his back to us, gestures toward the silver tea set and tray. Rows of 'Buffalo Bills Bandsmen,' soldiers, performers, and finally Native American Sioux wearing elaborate eagle feather headdress stand in an inverted "V" formation on a well manicured lawn. The scene unfolds before a massive painted canvas backdrop. On either side, forth row in, are two columns of uniformed 12th (Price of Wale's Royal) Lancers accentuating the English connection of the birthday festivities.
In-house shipping is not available for this lot.
[Daguerreotype, Ambrotype, Tintype, CDV, Albumen, carte-de-visite, Salt print, Cabinet Card] [Western Expansion, Native Americans, Indians Affairs, Manuscripts] [Western Americana, Great Sioux Wars, General George A. Custer, Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Custer’s Last Stand, Battle of Little Bighorn, Battle of the Greasy Grass, Prints, Ephemera, Breweriana].
