Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, Protoclassic Period, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A fascinating pottery spoon rich with pre-Columbian zoomorphic iconography with the heads of 2 canines protruding from the top of the handle and the sinuous body of a serpent leading to the shallow bowl. The snake's head rests atop one of the dog heads, while all is adorned in vibrant orange and beige slip, highlighting the form of the implement as well as the features of the animals. Size: 1.5" W x 5.4" H (3.8 cm x 13.7 cm)

Professionally repaired with some restoration and break lines visible in areas. Light surface wear with nicks and pitting as shown, but otherwise excellent with nice manganese deposits and great remaining pigments.
