Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan area, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. An intriguing pottery jar of a tall, wide form used for storing grains or other substances. The vessel is defined by a rounded base stabilized with a pair of attenuated feet, a bulbous ovoid body with a rounded shoulder, a thin rim, and a deep interior cavity. An abstract anthropomorphic visage graces the front of the jar with coffee-bean-shaped eyes and full lips surrounded by a crescent-rimmed headdress, and the curved arms form a pair of usable handles.
