Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, Protoclassic Period, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A hand-built pottery 'pretty lady' figure boasting a voluptuous, hourglass body adorned elaborate ornaments and liberal remains of red pigment. Standing atop delineated legs, the woman presents a portly abdomen, globular breasts, stocky arms, and a broad neck embellished with a group of impressed necklaces. The rounded head boasts an abstract visage of coffee bean-shaped eyes, a pointed nose, and thin lips, all beneath an incised coiffure with drooping bangs. A huge pair of hoop earrings flank her face. Size: 2.5" W x 5.4" H (6.4 cm x 13.7 cm); 5.6" H (14.2 cm) on included custom stand.
