Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, ca. 100 BCE. A striking bowl with a wide body and acutely-angled shoulder. Around the shoulder are repeated motifs of serpent- or lizard-like creatures set within cross-hatched borders. The bowl stands on a low, rounded base, and has a shallow, unpronounced rim. This bowl is from a culture that may have been related to the West Mexican shaft tomb tradition, and it was probably made to be placed into a tomb. Size: 12.2" W x 3.25" H (31 cm x 8.3 cm)
