Of baluster form, footed base, with stepped and domed lid, pierced thumb-piece, scrolled handle with lapped detail and shield-form terminal, stamped twice with maker's mark, "W Y," to base and under rim near handle; engraved cipher "J.E.N." to body.

Note
The cipher is believed to be that of John (1733-1808) and Elizabeth Davis Nixon (1737-1795), who married in 1765. A well-connected merchant and ardent patriot, Nixon was the first to publicly read The Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia from the steps of the Statehouse on July 8, 1776.
Condition
overall in great condition, with minor occasional old dings or scratches commensurate with age or use; surface remains bright overall, with little tarnish and some minor areas of polish residue to recesses; underside showing at least one scratch silver test, and with some minor spottiness from polishing; handle terminal with some minor roughness or scratching indicative of polishing or the attachment to body
