Bohemian Grove play inscribed to Xavier Martinez by the author (together with a letter), and signed by Martinez. STEELE, RUFUS. 1877-1935. The Fall of Ug, A Masque of Fear. Being the Eleventh Grove Play of the Bohemian Club of San Francisco... on the Ninth Night of August 1913. San Francisco: The Bohemian Club, 1913. 16mo. Light brown paper boards, paper title label, original wrapper. Xavier Martinez's signature on front paste-down. Inscribed to Martinez on front free endpaper, dated September 27, 1913. Condition: Some light soiling/staining to paper boards, corners bumped. Together with: A typed letter signed by Rufus Steel, to "Marty" Martinez. Single sheet, 11in x 8 1/2in. Steele writes thanking Martinez for a sketch that he sent to the Grove on the eve of the performance, he sends the play as a token of appreciation. Condition: Folded, toned, edge creases. From the Family of Xavier Martinez (1869-1943), Elsie Whitaker Martinez (1890-1984), and Micaela Martinez DuCasse (1913-1989).
