Description
Richard Nixon Signed WH Dinner Menu Honoring Chowder & Marching Club.
1p, measuring 4.125" x 6.5", The White House, dated April 4, 1974. A menu program for an event hosted by President Richard Nixon to honor The Chowder and Marching Club. Boldly signed by President Nixon as "Richard Nixon" on the bottom of the menu. Near fine, with gilded edges.
On April 4, 1974 beginning at 8:04 pm, President Nixon and Vice President Ford held a dinner in the State Dining room at the White House honoring the Chowder and Marching Club. After World War II, a cadre of Republican up-and-comers in the House formed a group that embodied these impulses to join and make a mark: the Chowder and Marching Club (C&M). “All of us were young, all of us were new members of Congress. All of us were veterans of World War II,” Richard Nixon of California, a charter member, explained years later. “We were concerned about the strength of the United States and we were concerned about how we could help secure peace.”
