Signed letter from the former President of the United States to Professor Max Farrand which reads, "My Dear Max, I have yours of November 29th. Of course you can take my box and use it all the time. The truth is I cannot get out to the Country Club at all. I have to take my exercise by walking out Prospect Street as far as I have time to go - sometimes to Canner, sometimes to Highland, sometimes to Huntington, and sometimes to the jumping off place which brings me down to Fred Brewster's and back. I get about as much walk that way as I would in eighteen holes, but not as much exercise. I can do it in an hour and a quarter or an hour and a half, and that has to satisfy me; but if you can get out to the Club, it is better. The locker is completely at your disposal. Sincerely yours, William H. Taft." Max Farrand (1869-1945) was an American historian, who taught at several universities and was the first director of the Huntington Library.
