Item Details
Description
4pp. document detailing the inventory and appraisal of the estate of Michael Myers. Myers was born in Frederick, Maryland in 1774, marrying Eve Christina Pope on February 23, 1804 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. He died February 17, 1814.

Dated December 10, 1814, the document starts with the evaluation of “One Negro Woman” and “One ditto (Negro) Girl,” each appraised at $200. The list goes one for 4 pages including items of everyday farm life and animals required to keep such a farm. Final page signed by William Crow, Luke Robinson, George Harlan, and James Logan.

Condition as shown. Sober look at the dehumanizing practice of valuing human beings, next to farm equipment, as property to be bought and sold.

[African American History, Black Americana, Slavery, Slave, Abolition, Abolitionist, Emancipation Proclamation, 13th Amendment] [John Brown, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Ulysses S. Grant, US Grant] [Civil War, Union, Confederate]
