Description
1852 settlement agreement between heirs of a Kentucky estate that divides 28 slaves between two parties. The deceased, a John Gilbert, owned a plantation in the eastern part of the state when he died. The slaves were then divided among his widow and his daughter and her husband. This is a very stark document in that the slaves, all named except for children, were clearly "drafted" by the parties without regard to familial ties.
