A very rare example from the Tabwa. A carved wooden helmet style mask with raised linear designs and coiffure, carved tribal tattoo motifs, basketry attachments , possibly left over from a costume or part of the mask regalia and an undeniable well handled and worn surface patina from field use.Tabwa peoples, DRC/ Congo, central Africa.The mask measures 12 inches tall X 9 inches wide. A metal display stand will also be included.Provenance: Ex John & Nicole Dintenfass collection, New York.
