Description
Stereograph of Booth Family Plot, Resting Place of John Wilkes Booth
Printed photograph card, stereograph format, measuring 3.5" x 7", n.p., n.d. Image depicts obelisk of stage actor Junius Brutus Booth (1796-1852), father of John Wilkes Booth, located in Baltimore's Green Mount Cemetery. Published by notable stereograph manufacturer William Moody Chase for a series titled The Beautiful in Architecture and Landscape. Stereoscopic images, or a stereogram, refer to a pair of images that, when viewed with a stereoscope, present a 3D depth to the image. Minor foxing, toning, and bumped corners to all, but does not affect the image quality. Overall very good condition.
Following the assassination of the president, Booth fled and was pursued by federal troops until he was found twelve days later on April 26, 1865 in a tobacco barn, where he was fatally shot. Booth's remains were not returned to the family until five years later in 1869, upon which he was buried in Green Mount Cemetery.
