An embroidered iron-on Apollo XV mission decal is mounted below the signed photograph, the whole ensemble custom-matted and framed behind glass. Not examined out of the frame. Labeled "Novaspace Galleries" verso. The sight size of the photograph is 19.25" x 15.5" and the decal measures 4" in diameter. The overall framed size is 26.75" square by 1" deep. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Novaspace Galleries (Tucson, Arizona).

The Apollo XV mission, the fourth manned type of its kind to land on the moon, was conducted between July 26-August 7, 1971. Commander David R. Scott (born 1932) oversaw a 3-man crew comprised of Command Module Pilot Alfred M. Worden (1932-2020) and Lunar Module Pilot James B. Irwin (1930-1991).

According to the Novaspace Galleries Certificate of Authenticity, this large photograph was produced from a NASA archive transparency (almost certainly corresponding to Apollo XV mission photograph, NASA ID: AS15-88-11863.) The original photograph of Commander Scott saluting the American flag at the Hadley-Apennine landing site was taken by Irwin on August 1, 1971.

Apollo XV was the first of NASA's extended missions, eventually clocking in at 12 days, 7 hours, 11 minutes, and 53 seconds. This longer period enabled astronauts to more comprehensively study, document, and explore the moon. They collected geological samples, conducted scientific experiments, ventured further out using a Lunar Roving Vehicle, and performed the first deep space walk. The Apollo XV crew also extensively photographed and filmed their surroundings, vehicles, equipment, and each other using a variety of tools. They took over 2,500 pictures. Photographs were taken automatically by the new SIM installed in the Service Module, or by the astronauts themselves, whose semi-automatic battery-operated cameras were attached to their suits. Photos ranged from extreme close-ups to wide-angle panoramic shots. All and any photos were of value, as much remained undiscovered about Earth's closest neighbor.
