Description
FDR TLS to His Cousin "...have personally asked... the First Assistant Postmaster General, to take up the matter of the deliveries of mail in New Bedford"
ALS, 1p, measuring 7" x 9.25", July 11, 1913, Washington D.C., written to FDR's cousin Julia Delano on "The Assistant Secretary of the Navy" stationery. Flattened folds from mailing, some evidence of prior mounting on verso.
In full:
"Dear Cousin Julia: -
I have just returned to Washington after a week at Campobello, and have personally asked Mr. Roper, the First Assistant Postmaster General, to take up the matter of the deliveries of mail in New Bedford. I hope something will come of it.
Please excuse this typewritten note, but there is such an enormous accumulation of mail and I am signing my name so many times that I have writer's cramp.
I am glad to say that we got to Campobello just in time to miss the hot wave and now it is delightfully cool down here.
Affectionately yours,
Franklin D. Roosevelt"
Future U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy from 1913 until 1920 and helped to implement Navy policies during World War I.
