Description
Chester W. Nimitz (1885-1966) Admiral. Nimitz served in World War I as chief of staff to the commander of the U.S. Atlantic submarine force. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Nimitz was elevated to commander in chief of the Pacific Fleet. In 1944, he was promoted to fleet admiral. After WWII, he served as chief of naval operation. 5 ¾” x 7 ½” typed letter signed, Commander In Chief, March 22, 1945, to Jimmy Wiggins. “…your interesting letter…has just been received at Advance Headquarters on the Island of Guam…Have you ever thought of mathematics as a hobby?...In the Navy we find that those officers who were good students of mathematics receive promotions with great regularity…while those who neglected this subject often find themselves handicapped….”
