MacArthur Writes to Key War Correspondent Who Once Interviewed Stalin
TLS, written to Roy W. Howard, President of the United Press and the E. W. Scripps Company, dated January 10, 1963. MacArthur writes to the famous war correspondent, thanking him for the gift of the 1963 World Almanac. MacArthur remarks "With each passing year your Almanac becomes more and more indispensable." Boldly signed by the General as "Douglas MacArthur." Accompanied by a PRINTED photo of MacArthur. Flattened folds from mailing, print line on the bottom left and an "X" on the top right corner. 1p, 8" x 10.5”.
Roy W. Howard was an American newspaperman with a long association with E. W. Scripps Company. He was president of E. W. Scripps Company and the United Press, and chairman of Scripps Howard Newspapers. He began his newspaper career as a paperboy in Indianapolis, Indiana, but quickly moved up.
